How to time the vertical?

  • Timing
  • Vertical

From the top of the swing there are three peak-force windows. This is the map John Paul, BioForce’s biomechanist, uses. Peak lateral sits around 10 o’clock, when the left arm is at about 45 degrees. Peak torque, the rotational push, sits between that point and left arm parallel to the ground. Peak vertical comes after that: from left arm parallel (9 o’clock) until the shaft is getting down toward the ground (left arm around 8 o’clock). Stay in those windows and you keep your distance. If you dump the vertical at the top, or chase it after the ball is gone, you only swung harder.
